Students learn dosage calculations, product recognition and drug distribution systems. Major emphasis is placed on learning the trade and generic names of selected drugs and their classification. You’ll also learn pharmaceutical and medical terminology including abbreviations and symbols used in prescribing, dispensing and charting.

Pharmacy Technicians perform the following daily activities:

Employment of Pharmacy Technicians, from 2006-2016, is expected to increase much faster than the average for all occupations, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics Occupational Outlook Handbook, 2008-09 edition. The increased number of middle-aged and elderly people, who take more prescription drugs than younger people, will spur demand for pharmacy technicians during the projection period.

As a Pharmacy Technician, you can work in hospitals (inpatient and outpatient pharmacy), retail pharmacies, mail order pharmacies and pharmaceutical companies.
